Welcome to IBEW Local 9!
Welcome to Local No. 9 IBEW. Established in 1892, our membership has grown to serve 2,400 men and women throughout the greater Chicagoland area and beyond.
We have developed this website as a source of information about our union and its goals, and also as a resource for our members. We at Local No. 9 strive daily to meet these goals and to master the new challenges that face us in today's changing world.
History
According to the earliest records of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the union's first convention was held in St. Louis on November 21, 1891. Ten delegates, representing 286 members, met to form what was then called the National Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Those ten members are credited as being the founders of the IBEW.
