Built to Last

Built to Last is a half-hour special on ABC Channel 7 featuring trade union members and contractors showcasing their skills and training.  IBEW Local 9 was featured on three segments in Season Six.  Check out the hardworking men and women of IBEW Local 9 in the videos below.

IBEW Local 9 was established in 1892.  We represent over 3000 men and women working for the City of Chicago, Chicago Park District, Chicago Transit Authority, City of Naperville, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Town of Cicero, Village of Oak Park, those performing outside electrical construction with the Middle States Electrical Contractors Association and the line clearance tree trimmers.

The men and women of Local 9 are with you 24/7.  They deliver power from the substation to your home.  They are with you on your daily commute lighting your way and easing congestion on the Kennedy by controlling the reversable lanes and easing your ride on the subway and “L” trains. Local 9 members are keeping you and your family safe with traffic lights and signals as well as cameras and keeping your ever important cell reception available.  Our line clearance tree trimmers keep the lines safe from overgrowing trees.  And when Mother Nature storms in, the linemen of Local 9 battle the storms to have your power restored.

There are countless ways the hard working members of Local 9 are working behind the scenes to keep the City of Chicago, Cook, Grundy, Kankakee and Will Counties powered up and safe.  As you wait at a traffic signal, pass under a power line or feel safe in your brightly lit neighborhood remember to thank the members of IBEW Local 9.
